The Iron Dog, originally known as the Iron Dog Gold Rush Classic is an off-road snowmobile race across Alaska. At more than 1,971 miles (3,172 km), it is the longest and toughest snowmobile race in the world. The event began in 1984 as a 1,000-mile race from Big Lake near Wasilla, Alaska to Nome, Alaska. Today, the race continues on for another 1,000 miles to finish in Fairbanks, Alaska.
